Cellular modems dial in, devices stay connected

Accept inbound Modbus connections from remote devices and polling sites without dedicated IP addresses or static routing.

What it is

Modbus TCP Server lets cellular modems and remote polling sites initiate TCP connections to your platform. The service automatically identifies each device by its serial number, resolves its configuration from your platform database, and begins polling over the same connection. Values are decoded by make-specific adapters and broadcast to the same live data pipeline as direct-dial connections. No static IPs, no port forwarding per device — one port, unlimited connections.

Key benefits

Simplify remote device connectivity

Devices behind NAT, firewalls, or cellular networks can now connect to your platform without complex network configuration. Let modems dial in instead of waiting for outbound polling slots.

Support unlimited field sites

A single reverse-connect port handles hundreds of simultaneous modems and polling sites. Automatically scale from a handful of remote locations to a nationwide deployment without infrastructure changes.

Unified data pipeline

Modbus data from reverse-connected devices flows through the same real-time broadcast system as all other meters — no special handling, no separate dashboards, same analytics and alarming.

Reduce IT overhead

No VPN setup, no customer firewall rules, no per-location port mappings. Devices self-identify and auto-register against your platform database. Deploy once, support unlimited locations.

Capabilities

  • Accept inbound TCP connections from cellular modems and remote polling devices
  • Auto-identify devices by serial number from the handshake frame
  • Resolve device configuration and Modbus settings from the platform database
  • Poll Modbus devices as a master over the reverse-connected socket
  • Decode device-specific data types with manufacturer-aware adapters
  • Broadcast decoded values through the platform's real-time protobuf pipeline
  • Support up to 256 simultaneous device connections with configurable timeouts and idle thresholds
  • Expose service health and active connection metrics via HTTP health endpoint

Put Modbus TCP Server to work on your estate.
